This basic recipe for plain sugar syrup provides the base for endless variations in flavor. Use these luscious simple syrups to brighten seasonal cocktails or transform nonalcoholic drinks into something special by adding them to sparkling water or tea.
In a small saucepan, combine the sugar and water over medium heat and bring to a boil, stirring to dissolve the sugar. Remove from the heat and let cool. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 weeks.
