Another quick lunchtime snack that can be found in local bistros and is really delicious if made with market-fresh quality ingredients. Turn this into a croque-madam by topping with a poached egg.


  • 4 slices sourdough bread
  • knob of butter
  • Dijon mustard (optional)

Preheat the grill to medium. Butter each slice of bread on one side and spread with mustard, if liked. Cover 2 slices with the ham and then top with the sliced cheese. Top with the remaining bread, buttered side down.
