Across-the-Road Auntie was always cooking. She’s the only one I remember making these kinds of pickles. Nowadays most people buy them but I find shop-bought versions are too oily so sometimes I will make this recipe, which she gave me when I was pregnant. It is considered an honour to cook for a pregnant woman and she was always giving me food gifts.
