There are some words in Swahili which I never realised were Swahili until I went to India. I remember asking my cousin Reena for an iron. I called it a pasi and she didn’t have a clue what I was on about as it’s istri in Gujarati. This is the same for this yoghurt-based drink, which I have always called chaash but in India it is commonly known as lassi.
