I had quite a sheltered upbringing and wasn’t allowed to go to pubs or bars. Even through university years I didn’t really drink alcohol much so it wasn’t until I got to Tokyo that I had my first margarita. I lived in Shiinamachi, which had one of the best little Mexican bars near the train station. It was very ramshackle and the owner loved to practise his English.
