Mavis Crawford started show cooking in about 1945, spurred on by the words of her recently acquired mother-in-law: ‘you will never be as good a cook as me.’ During more than 50 years of competing, Mavis proved her wrong time and again, winning 28 prizes with 30 entries at one show alone. She even became a judge, on one memorable occasion travelling to Hobart to assess entries in a Giant Home Cooking Contest.
