The Kapunda Show celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2007, making it one of the oldest agricultural shows in South Australia. The event started as a ploughing match in 1857, only fifteen years after copper ore was discovered in the district, leading to the birth of the state’s first commercial copper mining town.
The original ploughing matches expanded by the 1860s to include farm produce and livestock displays, drawing crowds of 3000 to 4000 people. When the mine closed in the 1870
