Fires, floods and war have taken their toll on the Swan Reach Show over the years, but the event soldiers on with an occasional recess to give the community time to regroup. As the Swan Express put it in 1978: ‘The changes have been drastic . . . However, the spirit of the show remains essentially the same – the aura of competition and striving, and the family togetherness.’
