It took determination, and the encouragement of her late husband Wilf, to turn Dot Brougham into one of Eyre Peninsula’s most respected show cooks. Dot was in her forties before she decided to enter the Lipson Show, where there was more than a little competition from a community of women renown for their cooking skills. ‘It was six or seven years before I started winning consistently,’ she admits, describing her first attempts as ‘terrible’.
