This stickily sweet treacle tart has a gorgeously savoury edge to it with the addition of fragrant anise-flavoured fennel seeds. Ideal for your next dinner party dessert with a pour of rich cream on the side.

Ingredients

  • 1 x 375 g/13 oz sheet ready-rolled shortcrust pastry
  • 1 tbsp fennel seeds

Method

Use the pastry sheet to line a shallow 20cm/8in tart tin. Prick the base all over with a fork and chill for 30 minutes.

Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 220°C/200°C fan/425°F/Gas 7 and place a heavy baking sheet on the middle shelf to heat up with the oven.
