Heat the oil in a saucepan and fry the onion, garlic, chilli and ginger until softened. Add the remaining ingredients and simmer for 15 to 20 minutes. Cool completely.
Pour half of the brandy and Coke over the sirloin. Reserve the rest of the sauce. Marinate the sirloin, covered, in the refrigerator overnight. Drain off the marinade. Bring the meat to room temperature.
