This recipe is sort of a traditional Brazilian version of a shepherd’s pie.
Cut the beef into 2 in (5 cm) long pieces, place in a bowl and cover with water. Change the water at least three times, getting rid of the excess salt. Leave overnight.
On the day, change the water once more, and cook the beef until it’s tender. Leave to cool and using your hands, shred (pull) the beef. It should still be a little bit salty. If not, add a little salt.
