Ingredients: 15 ml/1 tbsp granulated sugar; 10 ml/2 tsp salt; ½ egg white; 7.5 ml/1½ tsp easy bake dried yeast; 265 ml/9½ fl oz/1⅛ cup milk; 5 ml/1 tsp easy bake dried yeast; 625 g/1 lb 6 oz/5½ cups unbleached white bread flour; 120 ml/generous 4 fl oz/½ cup water; 450 g/1 lb/4 cups unbleached white bread flour; 100 ml/3½ fl oz/7 tbsp water; 25 g/1 oz/2 tbsp butter; 60 ml/4 tbsp poppy seeds; 20 g/¾ oz/1½ tbsp butter; 10 ml/2 tsp granulated sugar; 200 ml/7 fl oz/⅞ cup milk; 5 ml/1 tsp easy bake (rapid-rise) dried yeast; 60 ml/2 fl oz/¼ cup water; 375 g/13 oz/3¼ cups unbleached white bread flour; 45 ml/3 tbsp poppy seeds; 7.5 ml/1½ tsp salt; 180 ml/6½ fl oz/generous ¾ cup milk; 5 ml/1 tsp water

Poppy seeds are popular in Eastern European breads. They have a mild, sweet, slightly nutty flavour and make an interesting addition to this loaf.

Method

Pour the milk and water into the bread machine pan. If the instructions for your machine specify that the yeast is to be placed in the pan first, reverse the order in which you add the liquid and dry ingredients.
