In small amounts, sour cream is a wonderful addition to a dough; it helps create a moist, close-textured roll. Here the whole wheat flour is sweetened a bit with the addition of a small amount of ground almonds.

Ingredients

1½- or 2-Pound-Loaf Machines

  • ¼ cup slivered blanched almonds
  • 2 cups whole wheat flour

Method

  1. Place the almonds in a dry skillet. Lightly toast over medium heat, stirring constantly, about 2 minutes. In a food processor, combine the almonds with 2 tablespoons of the whole wheat flour. Grind to a fine meal.
