This very simple dessert makes good use of blackberries that are a little tart to eat on their own. Try using other fruits instead of pears and plums, such as apples and greengages.
Ingredients
200ml (7fl oz) full-bodied fruity red wine (like a New World Merlot)
Put the red wine into a pan with the cinnamon, cloves, bay leaf, sugar and orange peel. Bring to the boil and simmer gently for 5 minutes. Remove from the heat and leave to cool.
