These days a little cheese is sometimes served before dessert, as opposed to after it, or even in some cases instead of it. I personally don’t mind either way, though a plate of cheese on the dinner table after dessert can sometimes be a good way to finish up the red wine. In France, of course, cheese after dessert is unheard of, so there is no choice in the matter.
