I wasn’t much of a hare fan when I was young and probably only ate it a couple of times. It must have been something to do with the way they would just appear from nowhere, hanging in my grandparents’ porch. Hare were plentiful in Dorset and probably difficult to get rid of, so often ended up as dog food instead of in a traditional West Country dish. Game would often just turn up as a kind of favour, I suppose ... a bit of local trading for a few pounds of Granddad’s tomatoes or a some head
