I sort of knew about black bun, but had never set eyes on it. I eventually managed to find some sitting in among some other fruity cakes in a Scottish deli, and my first thought was ‘giant Garibaldis’. Maybe the Garibaldi was the snack-sized version for carrying around in your pocket, because you certainly wouldn’t want to be carrying this lump around in your pocket.
