Bubble and squeak is a strange name for a vegetable dish, but it’s probably so called because of the noises the vegetables make while being fried in the pan. Originally the dish was made with meat and cabbage only, but at some time potatoes were introduced, and they have stayed.
As you can see from the recipe, I have given one or two alternatives. This is because bubble and squeak can really be your own invention, and either mashed or cooked potatoes, sprouts or cabbage will do the
