  • About

The historic Bakewell tart is said to have originated at the Rutland Arms in Bakewell, Derbyshire. Some claim it was created by an Italian cook, for the almond filling is very similar to a frangipane, but the British had just as much experience in baking with ground almonds. It is a cross between a cake and pudding, and can be served for dessert or for afternoon or high tea. It was quite a challenge to simulate that taste in an ice-cream – but it works. All the flavour is here. Crisp pastry
