Sally Lunn is a famous teacake that’s yeast based, taking on a sweet loaf look. The name is said to come from the lady herself, a pastry chef from Bath who, in the eighteenth century, sold the cakes on the street. Another story says the cake was French in origin, and that when its name, ‘Soleil Lune’, ‘the sun and moon’, was cried in the streets, the people in the West Country took it as ‘Sally Lunn’.
