Oatcakes – also known as bannocks – are a typical example of the earliest types of bread cooked in Britain – flat and hard, shaped and cooked on the hearthstone or on a flat griddle. Once they were made with oats and water alone. I’ve added some golden syrup, which gives the biscuits a golden edge, and a delicious toffee flavour.
