Yield: Makes about 1½ dozen.
Ingredients: ½ cup unsalted butter; 2 oz. unsweetened chocolate, coarsely chopped; 6 oz. cream cheese, softened to room temperature; ½ tsp. pure vanilla extract; 1 cup granulated sugar; 1 tbsp. milk, whole or 2 percent; 1 tsp. pure vanilla extract; 2 large eggs, lightly beaten; ¼ cup granulated sugar; ⅔ cup unbleached, all-purpose flour; ½ tsp. baking powder; ¼ tsp. salt; 1 large egg; 3 oz. semisweet chocolate, coarsely chopped

This chocolaty, cheesecake-crowned brownie is delightful with or without toasted walnuts in the Brownie Base.

Ingredients

Brownie Base

½ cup unsalted butter
2 oz. unsweetened chocolate, coarsely chopped

Method

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and lightly flour an 8" square pan.

For the Brownie Base

Melt the butter and chocolate in a medium saucepan over low heat, stirring constantly. Remove from heat; cool slightly. Whisk in sugar and vanilla. Blend in eggs.

Whisk in flour, baking powder, and salt until blended. Spread into prepared pan.
