Ingredients: 1 tsp. pure vanilla extract; ¼ tsp. salt; 2 tbsp. unsalted butter, softened to room temperature; 1 cup confectioners’ sugar, sifted; 2 large eggs, lightly beaten; 1 cup granulated sugar; ½ tsp. baking powder; ⅔ cup unbleached, all-purpose flour; Finely grated zest of 1 large orange; ½ cup unsalted butter; 2 oz. unsweetened chocolate, coarsely chopped; ½ tsp. pure orange extract; 1 additional orange; 1 tbsp. juice from the zested orange

Brownie Base

½ cup unsalted butter
2 oz. unsweetened chocolate, coarsely chopped

Method

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly grease and flour an 8" square pan.

For the Brownie Base

Melt the butter and chocolate in a medium saucepan over low heat, stirring constantly. Remove from heat; cool slightly. Whisk in sugar and vanilla. Blend in eggs and orange zest.
