Ingredients: 1½ tsp. pure vanilla extract; 2 oz. bittersweet chocolate, coarsely chopped; 5 tbsp. unsalted butter; ¼ tsp. salt; ½ cup unbleached, all-purpose flour; ½ tsp. baking powder; 1 cup granulated sugar; ¼ cup milk, whole or 2 percent; 2 tsp. instant espresso powder; 2 large eggs, lightly beaten; 2 oz. unsweetened chocolate, coarsely chopped

Deep chocolate flavor and a hint of coffee . . . these brownies are definitely super simple. Don’t skimp on ingredients. Better-quality chocolates will give them a noticeably richer flavor.

Ingredients

Brownie Base

2 oz. bittersweet chocolate, coarsely chopped
2 oz. unsweetened chocolate, coarsely chopped

Method

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly grease and flour an 8" square pan.

For the Brownie Base

Combine the chocolates in a double boiler set over simmering water. Stir often, over low heat, until mixture is melted and smooth.

Remove top of double boiler from heat, and carefully wipe bottom (so none of the moisture steams up into the chocolate mix
