Why chipotle chiles (smoked jalapeño peppers) in brownies? Why not? Chipotles intensify the chocolate flavor and add a tiny kick of mysterious heat.

Ingredients

Brownie Base

  • ¼ cup unsalted butter + more for pan
  • 3 oz. bittersweet chocolate, coarsely chopped

Method

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly grease an 8" square pan with butter.

For the Brownie Base

Cut the ¼ cup butter into pieces. Stir butter and chocolate in a medium saucepan over medium low heat until melted and combined.

Remove saucepan from heat. Quickly blend in sugar, chipotles, adobo sauce, vanilla, and cayenne. Whisk in egg, then flour,
