My mom was a great pie baker, and this luscious brownie in a flaky crust was one of my favorite comfort foods when I was a kid (once she got on the “brownie bandwagon”). I include here my favorite pie-dough recipe for the crust.
Heat oven to 375 degrees.
Combine the flour, salt, and sugar in the work bowl of a food processor; pulse until mixed. Add cold butter and shortening, pulsing until mixture forms a coarse meal. Add ice water, a little at a time, just until mixture comes together.
