There’s an art to finding just the right appetizer. I’m always on the lookout for something with a sharpness that will spike an appetite, but it can’t be too filling. I won’t bother with a dish that’s too fussy, and it’s all the better if I can make it a day or two before a party. These briny, slightly spicy pickled shrimp win on all counts. I like to put them out with a platter of fresh radishes with salt and butter, crackers, and plenty of napkins.
