Method

In a large saucepan, combine the 8 cups of water, the ginger slices, 2 of the garlic cloves, and the baking soda. Bring to a boil over high heat. Add the broccoli and cook until it turns bright emerald green, about 2 minutes. Drain and rinse under cold running water. Drain well
