Wampee is a conference center owned by Santee-Cooper, the state-owned utility company in South Carolina. The main house is an eighteenth-century home that was moved to its present site during the construction of a series of dams, during which its previous location and nearby areas were flooded and turned into lakes so the dams could generate power for rural areas in the 1930s.
The house is said to be haunted by ghosts who made the journey to the home’s new location.
