Five-Flavoured Soup

Numerology plays a significant role within Chinese culture and in traditional herbal preparations. The idea of the correct balance between all parts of the human body is based on the theory of the Five Elements: Water feeds vegetation to produce Wood that fuels Fire that produces ashes on Earth, which yields Metal. This same number is symbolic when applied to ingredients. Here, water and sugar do not count among the five.
