  • About

These simple yet delectable little egg tarts clearly demonstrate the hybrid Portuguese-Chinese nature of the food from Macau, which was a Portuguese enclave for more than 400 years. Over the centuries, this sweet snack has become a favourite throughout the region and abroad and is probably the only Chinese dessert that contains cheese. The ingredients used outside China can vary, however, with the cheese often being omitted and a dash of ground cinnamon being sprinkled over the top.
