Sift the flour into a large mixing bowl and make a well in the centre. Place butter in the middle and then the sugar and salt. Amalgamate them all together and using your fingertips or a fork, mix in the flour. Add the egg and mix again gradually incorporating all the flour around the sides of the bowl.
