This modern version of the centuries-old drink called xoco atl is not only more desirable and attractive than the original, but it is a considerable taste sensation.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz. dark chocolate (at least 70 percent cocoa solids), grated or finely chopped
  • 1 cup

Method

Put the chocolate in a heatproof bowl. Put the milk and cream in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Remove the pan from the heat and let the milk subside. Pour a small amount of the hot milk and cream over the chocolate and stir to a smooth paste. Gradually pour in the remaining milk, stirring gently all the time, until the chocolate is melted. Let stand for several minutes to infuse completely.</
