  • A cup of strained tomato juice
  • 1 teaspoon of finely chopped onion
  • 1 tablespoon of lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon of wine vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon of finely chopped celery or ½ a teaspoon of celery seed
  • ½ a small bayleaf
  • 1 level tablespoon of sugar.


Mix all the ingredients thoroughly and let them stand for 2 hours in a cool place. Strain through a cloth, pour into small glasses and serve well iced.
