Who could have predicted that this Italian family dessert of Venetian origin (actually, from the nearby town of Treviso), whose name literally translates as “pick me up,” would become the toast of chic restaurants on several continents? It’s nothing but a simple spoon dessert: ladyfingers or spongecake soaked in coffee and piled in a dish with a custard made with mascarpone cheese.
