Black pudding” is how the name translates. In this Italian rendition, cubes of bread are baked in a chocolate custard; they rise to the top, forming a cobbled surface that’s crusty and irresistible.

This light, not-too-sweet pudding is adapted from a recipe in Antichi Dolci di Casa (“Home-Style Desserts of the Past”) by Silvia Tocco Bonetti. In the original recipe, the pudding was unmolded after baking, but I like to bake it in a springform pa
