Ingredients: 2½ cups all-purpose flour; 1 cup molasses; 1 cup sugar; 1 cup peanut oil or other bland oil; ¼ teaspoon freshly ground pepper; ¼ cup (about 2 ounces) minced, peeled fresh ginger, or to taste; ½ teaspoon ground cloves; Lemon Cream (optional); 2 teaspoons baking soda; 2 large eggs, lightly beaten; ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon; 1 cup boiling water

Method

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Butter a 9-inch springform pan; flour the pan, tapping out the excess; set aside. Sift together the flour, cinnamon, cloves and peppe
