A quick, easy fruit refresher for a hot summer’s night, whether made in an ice cream freezer or still-frozen by hand. Use whatever type of melon you like; just make sure that they are verging on overripe.

Ingredients

  • cup sugar
  • cups cold water
  • 2 very ripe cantaloupes

Method

  1. Combine the sugar and water in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil, stirring to dissolve the sugar. Boil gently, uncovered, without stirring, for 5 minutes. Pour the syrup into a bowl and chill until cold.
