This ice tastes like crystalline frozen espresso, eaten with a spoon, and it’s very easy to make. The coffee is brewed strong, sweetened to taste and then frozen into chunky, flavor-packed crystals.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups hot strong-brewed espresso
  • ½-⅔ cup sugar
  • Whipped cream, for serving

Method

  1. Sweeten the coffee with the sugar to taste while hot, stirring to dissolve the sugar. Cover and chill thoroughly in the refrigerator.
  2. Pour the coffee into a pie pan or ice-cube trays without the dividers. Carefully place in the freezer until the mixture is firm around the edges (usually after about 45 minutes).
  3. Cut it into coarse crystals with 2 knive
