Picadillo comes from the Spanish verb picar, “to chop into small pieces,” but if is often used as a loose term for a mixture of ground meat and spices, much like American hash. This skillet dish is a favorite in many Latin-American countries, especially Cuba, and is also a favorite filling for Mexican chiles rellenos and empanadas.
