Ingredients

  • ½ cup tamari or soy sauce
  • ½ cup sake or Shaoxing (rice wine)
  • 1 tablespoon finely minced garlic
  • 2 teaspoons peeled and finely minced fresh ginger
  • ½ cup mirin (sweet rice wine)
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 2 teaspoons toasted sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • ½ teaspoon five-spice powder

Method

Whisk all the ingredients together. Can be made 1 day ahead and stored covered in the refrigerator.
