Growing up as a first-generation Italian-American, I would sometimes long for classic American fare in an attempt to assimilate with the kids at school. My brother and I would take trips to the supermarket in secret to buy boxed stuffing (don’t judge), cook it while no one was in the kitchen, and pray no one else noticed it on the table. The secrecy eventually became too much, and I realized I needed to come up with a stuffing recipe the rest of my family would want to eat.
