Mentioned particularly as a good breakfast dish. A little book called Breakfast Dishes for Every Morning of Three Months, by Miss Allen, published in 1896, suggests as the breakfast menu for six people, on 24 March, a Saturday: fried rissoles, chicken patties, com flour cake, aspic jelly (very savoury), strawberry fool (made with strawberry jam) and brawn. A very curious breakfast for a March morning.
