A Northamptonshire recipe from ‘Mrs Ann Blencowe’, 1694. Lady Blencowe was the daughter of a distinguished Whig mathematician and cryptographer, John Wallis. She married Sir John Blencowe, who was an M.P. and a judge, when she was nineteen. Her spelling is distinctly personal, even for her time, but most of her recipes, though often cryptic, are very good.
