Bread Pudding

Ingredients

  • 1 pint (6 dl.) milk
  • 3 oz. (90 g.) breadcrumbs
  • 2 tablespoons caster sugar
  • 2 oz. (60 g.) currants
  • 2 oz. (60 g.) sultanas
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter
  • 2 eggs, beaten with a pinch of salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla essence butter

Method

Pour the milk over the crumbs, and stand for ½ hour. Stir in the other ingredients. Pour into a greased pie dish. Place small dabs of butter over the top. Place in a baking tin containing an inch of hot water. Bake in a moderate oven at 300–325° F., gas mark 4–5, for 30 minutes, till set in the centre and golden brown on top.
