Soda Bread

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. (½ k.) flour
  • 2 teaspoons cream of tartar or 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda or 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon of sugar
  • ½ pint (3 dl.) milk

Method

Alternatively you may use self-raising flour and add 1 small teaspoon of baking powder.

Mix all together with the milk to a soft dough. Knead a little.

Bake on a greased tin as a flat cake, or in a bread tin, for half an hour, at 400° F., gas mark 6.

For wholemeal soda bread use one-third wholemeal to two-thirds white flour.
