When the starter is ready it needs to be combined with more flour and water to make bread. This recipe yields about 2 pounds of dough.


  • 2 ¼ cups flour
  • 1 cup barely warm water
  • Sourdough starter (left)


Review the steps for bread making before beginning. Combine the flour, water, starter, and salt in a bowl if you are mixing the dough by hand or in the mixing bowl if you are using a stand mixer.

To mix and knead by hand

Mix the ingredients until the dough comes together. Knead for 7 minutes and let rest, covered
