This is the traditional butter cookie dough long used in American bakeries. Because the recipe contains baking powder, these cookies have a lighter texture than the Holiday Butter Cookies.


  • 2 cups flour
  • ¾ teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon


In a bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt.

In a large bowl, using a wooden spoon or a mixer, gradually building up speed from low to high, cream together the butter, sugar, and vanilla for about 7 minutes by hand or 5 minutes with the mixer, or until smooth and creamy.
