This recipe comes from my old friend Peter Fresulone, who, along with Bill Liederman, was my partner in the Total Heaven Baking Company in the early eighties. We must have sold at least a ton of these cookies a year—they were one of our most popular items. At the time Peter said the recipe had come from his aunt so we always jokingly called them Zi’ Rosa’s cookies. The joke was that there is absolutely nothing Italian about them.
